Your Mark On The World by Devin D. Thorpe

Your Mark On The World combines inspiring stories of ordinary people doing remarkable things to make the world a better place with practical advice to empower anyone to give more to a cause (charity, non-profit or social venture) without giving up a career or family.

    The inspiring stories include:

Botevy’s life and death struggle through Pol Pot’s killing fields that led her ultimately to create an orphanage in Phnom Penh.

Rick’s personal crusade to cure cystic fibrosis to ensure that his two afflicted grandchildren will attend his funeral and not the other way around.

The eight-member Smith family’s world service tour.

David’s decision to walk away from a successful career as an international executive to volunteer to care for victims of leprosy in rural India.

These stories are combined with practical financial advice to empower you to give more to a cause without giving up your family or your career.

    The book answers these questions:

How do I get out of debt and stay out of debt?

Which charity or cause do I choose to make my donation?

How do I decide where to volunteer?

How can our family plan a volunteer vacation?

How can I save money for retirement?

How much should I contribute to my 401k?

Can I use Mint to manage my budget?

How to retire early enough to devote healthy years to volunteering?

This must-read book provides an overview of philanthropy in America and around the world, providing you with a clear picture of charity and its fruits. You’ll learn the ability to leave your mark on the world.

    My review:

I have had quite a few catastrophe’s in my life, health-wise and financial.  I have a really hard time with financial people as a rule because I feel like most are out of touch with “normal” people. People who are working their butts off just to wind up with $5 after paying for gas, bills and groceries. It’s hard. I know. I am living it right now.

That being said, Devin doesn’t give me that feeling. When I read this book I got a sense that the author knows that people really need to achieve a sense of balance…emotionally and financially. I like the combination of advice and inspirational stories. The advice in this book is practical, not a double-edged sword like most financial advice. Your Mark on the World is easy to understand, is in simple language so you are not bored and confused. If you are struggling, in debt or want to know how to start giving back this book is a great place to begin!

    About jen @craftymomof3

I am a "crafty" mom of 3 who has been blogging for 10+ years. I’ve been a product reviewer/influencer on and off, but mostly just write about life and food I love. I’m a dyslexic, an extreme book addict, a total nerd, a fangirl, and a paranormal enthusiast. I am a New Englander at heart but I currently live in the MidWest. I am obsessed with the ocean, food, tech, books, anything supernatural, and although I am hopelessly sarcastic...I am a softy. Oh, and I like coffee. A LOT.
