Crafty Tip: Top 10 Cookie Cutters to Have in Your Kitchen

There are few things better than a moist, doughy sugar cookie with fresh icing on top. And for some reason they taste ten times better when they’re cut in cute shapes and decorated with sprinkles, right? Themed sugar cookies are the ideal solution for all your hosting and gift-giving needs year round. They’re the perfect addition to baby showers, wedding receptions, birthday parties, and holiday events, and seem to run out faster than you can make your way to the table. With this list of the top ten cookie cutters, you’ll be prepared to cater any event on your calendar.

    1.) Elephant
Elephants are perfect for baby showers, whether they’re baby pink or decorated for a jungle theme. It would be darling for a circus themed party, and would also cover your bases for Disney movies like Dumbo and The Jungle Book. It’s hard to go wrong with a cookie this cute.
    2.) Maple Leaf
This maple leaf will have you covered from August through November. Whether it’s a celebration of autumn with caramel apples and cider or Thanksgiving dinner, this cookie will complement your spread perfectly.

    3.) Crown

At some point in every girl’s life, they’re going to have a princess party. Throw your daughter the sparkly pink birthday party she’s dreaming of or celebrate your own Queen for Mother’s Day. The crown doesn’t have to be limited to women though! Celebrate Dad’s birthday by crowning him King.
    4.)  Apple
Bring a batch of cookie apples to your kids “Back to School” party, set them out at a PTA meeting, or give your children’s teacher a plate for Teacher’s Day. If your children are in college, send them a care package wishing them luck in their studies. Opening up a package full of these is sure to make their week.
    5.) Cupcake
No cookie collection is complete without a birthday cutter. Make a tradition out of making the same birthday cookie every year for your child. It will instill wonderful memories. The great thing about a simple cupcake template like this one is it can be used for any holiday. Frost the top green for St. Patrick’s Day, black and orange for Halloween, red and green from Christmas, or your child’s favorite color for their birthday.
    6.) Sunglasses/Reading Glasses
Host a summer luau and top off your menu with a plate of sunglass shaped cookies. Think creatively and you’ll be able to come up with all kinds of other uses. Perhaps you want to make a plate for “Mr. Cool” or transform them into reading glasses instead and give them as a “congratulations” for passing a test or graduating.
    7.) Heart

You can’t go wrong with the heart. It’s perfect for celebrating Valentines or simply telling someone you love them. Send them in a package and let a friend know they’re missed.  They’re perfect as filler cookies too and can be added to almost any occasion for variety.
    8.) Duck
Use this cute duck shaped cutter to make a festive addition to your children’s Easter baskets. You could also use it at baby showers, and by adding a little bonnet it would make a darling centerpiece for Mother Goose themed parties.
    9.) Car
A car shaped cutter has endless uses. Make a batch for your toddler’s birthday, or to celebrate your 16-year-old’s milestone birthday. This one will also work if you’re baking treats for the return of a loved one, or wishing someone well on their travels.
    10.) Christmas Tree
Probably the occasion most often associated with sugar cookies is Christmas. We all know they’re Santa’s favorite kind! It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without leaving out a plate for Santa, or doorbell ditching plates around the neighborhood and signing them as “Santa’s Elves”.  Make a day out of baking cookies, listening to Christmas music, and decorating your tree. It’s guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Now that you’re set for any possible occasion, get out there and start baking! Just don’t be surprised when you start getting special orders.
