B (Craftykid) has had this idea for awhile for DIY ornaments using the clear ones you can find at a craft store. We were asked to make a ornament craft using Elmer’s paint pens so we thought this would be a great craft to use her idea and make some cute ornaments with the pens.
- Glitter Glue (we used Elmer’s 3D Glitter Paint Pens)
- Elmer’s Clear School Glue
- Glitter
- Elmer’s Paint Pens
- Fake Snow
- Mini Styrofoam balls
- water
- mini acrylic paint pots
- paint brushes
- cups to put paint and glue in (we used my silicone measuring cups)
Next dad designed a funky pink and blue ornament for mom . He drew lines on it separating it like it was an orange . Then he colored in one orange slice with the blue Elmers paint pen. Next she skipped a spot leaving it clear. Then colored the next one pink and continued this process all the way around. Next my dad put some blue Elmers glitter glue inside . He then put the lid on the ornament and shook it all around hoping it would coat the inside with color. It would not quite work like that . My Dad then had the idea to put in a bit of water (about a third of a teaspoon) to loosen it up. It worked! Then we left the top off for an hour so it could dry.
I really wanted to make one with a wreath on it . So I gathered two different colors of green paint pens. First I drew a wreath with the darker green color.t Then I quickly colored over it with the lighter colored green paint pen to sort of mix the colors to make it look realistic. After it dried I then put dots of orange glitter glue to decorate the wreath . To finish this up we mixed together in a bowl, glitter, fake snow and tiny styrofoam balls and then filled the ornament half way with these things, put the cover on and tied a bow around it.We then hung them on a string for a festive holiday garland!
