My daughter kind of gave me a look when I gave these to her. I think she is getting annoyed by all the responsibilities of being a girl. LOL It took her a little while to read and absorb the information but I think she was pleasantly surprised by what information she was given. She even volunteered to take pictures for the post. 😉
To quote her:
The books are full of quizzes and fun facts, embarrassing moments, sticky situations and solutions to everyday friend problems. The books also have a lot of advice for just about everything. The books tell about girls and what problems you might have in middle school. They give you great advice about how to deal with being stuck in the middle with girl fights, dealing with embarrassing situations (like throwing up in school),how to make it through really hard things like divorce, losing people to drugs and learning disabilities. I really like that they had advice for tough questions that you might be too embarrassed to say out loud. I like that they have a lot of advice for how to find friends that are trustworthy and that understand and like you for who you are. I really recommend these books for girls my age (12) because no matter how close you are to family and friends, you might not always be able to tell them everything or feel ok with asking them certain things. I know I learned a lot, some of the stuff has already happened to me or my friends. I am glad I have these books to go back to if I need advice!
As a Mom I really love the Discovery Girls recognizes that girls need support from other places than their parents. I think books are an awesome way to make a girl feel safe and give her a chance to gain knowledge at her own pace. I think sometimes us moms tend to forget how overwhelming so of this stuff is…it’s just same ‘ole, same ‘ole for us. It’s a terrific idea and these books provide valuable lessons and resources for young girls.
