I don’t know if you heard, but slime is back. It’s showing up all over the internet, Youtube and Facebook. My daughter has been working hard to perfect her version of it and my house has been covered in glitter for weeks. To celebrate the brand new show My Knight and Me, my daughter and I came up with our own little craft project that kids can make to play along with the show!
My Knight and Me, for kids ages 6-10, follows the quests of a colorful and charismatic trio of knights in shining armor: loyal, street-smart Jimmy the Squire; daring and determined Cat the Princess; and bold and courageous Henri of Orange, Jimmy’s dad and a charmingly inept, yet passionately chivalrous knight who might not be the most efficient protector of the realm – but sure is the funniest! Together, the knightly group sets out from the Kingdom of Epic to save the day and brighten the Dark Ages!
What I like the most about the series is that it models close family ties (Jimmy thinks his dad is the best!), emphasizes the importance of teamwork (together, Jimmy, Cat and Henri can overcome any challenge that comes their way!) and helps kids understand the importance of using strategy over might to solve problems (Jimmy is the man with a plan!). My Knight and Me also features clever anachronisms (like Smart-Mirrors that resemble today’s iPhones, set in the Middle Ages), which add to the uniqueness of the show. My kids have always responded to fun puns….
My daughter has watched the show quite a few times and she loves the sassiness of it, how awesome the characters work together and creative ways they do it. Sometimes even when they do use teamwork it doesn’t always work out, but they all work together to make it successful.
- First print out the castle and the shields. You can make them as cup sleeves or puppets.
- Cut out the shields and the castle. Using clear tape, attach the shields and even the dragon if you want, to craft sticks.
To make the fluffy slime you will need the following products:
- Color-safe hair conditioner
- cornstarch
- Non-toxic washable finger paints
- craft sticks
- glitter
- disposable spoon
Squirt about 5 squirts of the conditioner in a bowl to start. Then add 3 teaspoons of corn starch to the conditioner, then stir until it’s totally mixed in. If it’s too thick, add a few more squirts of conditioner into the mix until you get the desired, fluffy texture. Then add the paint in a little at a time until you get the color you want. We used about 3 teaspoons. If the color makes it liquidy, add a few more sprinkles of cornstarch. Mix until it’s a fluffy, play doughy like texture. Take the mixture out of the bowl and massage the slime until it’s thoroughly mixed together and no longer sticky.
When you child is done playing with the fluffy slime make sure you seal it in a sandwich bag for another day! It will dry out quickly if left out for long periods of time.
We hope you have a blast watching My Knight and Me! Play along with the puppets and act out your favorite scenes in the show.
